The Trials of Minnie
Minnie, for those of you who don’t know, is the name given to our printer as a result of a competition back in January.
We thought that Minnie was settling happily into her new home with us. She’s been merrily printing fabric for us, without too much trouble (just the odd little tantrum), until about 3 weeks ago, when she suddenly showed a never-seen-before (by us) message on her screen and refused to do anything. A week ago last Tuesday, an engineer came down and sorted her out – but found another problem! It shouldn’t have been a game-stopper; we should still have been able to print. But Minnie had other ideas. She would print some orders (mainly swatches and fat quarters) but not others (mainly longer lengths, like metres, and the work of one designer, which she insisted on printing with stripes! What was that about?)
Last Tuesday, another engineer came to look at Minnie. At this point, I want to sing the children’s song ‘Miss Polly had a dolly’ (who was sick, sick, sick, So she sent for the doctor to come quick, quick quick.) The printer-doctor, however, despite his best efforts, couldn’t make Minnie better. We managed one more small run before she went on strike.
So, very sadly, we have to inform you that we can’t print any more fabric until Minnie has seen an engineer again. At the moment, that won't be until sometime next week! I know, I can't believe it, either. Apparently, they're all on holiday! (or busy elsewhere.) I'll let you know as soon as the situation changes.
