Music Design Challenge Entries

23 March 2017 08:00

We had five entries in this month's design challenge (plus 2 apologies from people who ran out of time!)

Beatmaker by Sentstarr

Emma-Jane said, 'As a child of the 80s I loved my Aunt's strikingly retro "Homemaker" tableware from the 1950s, designed by Enid Seeney for Ridgway Potteries.  After getting into The Beatles I wished they had produced a musical 60s version.  I have eventually got around to designing my own with records, dansettes and Beatle Boots alongside guitars, drums and amps.  The background and the objects featured are completely different to Enid's design, but I think I have managed to echo the spirit of her look all the same.

I'm going to make the fabric into some accessories for my vintage chrome and glass table and chairs, and I'm considering a coloured version to make into a 1950s dress.  My love of my Aunt's retro house has never left me.'

Rocknrollblues by Samantha Woodford

Am I Will? The Music Man by Neil Revell

The next two I've shown at the fat quarter size and the swatch size, because they're both small designs, where it's hard to see the design at the fq size.

Butterfly Skull Waltz by Fabric Mountain

Sally said, 'My design is a bit of a steampunk collage of vintage images paying homage to the romance & emotion of classical music.'

pd Rainbow Notes Green by Polly Dextrous

Helen said' 'As so much of the music themed fabric that you see is black and white (for obvious reasons) I decided to go for a more colourful approach!'

Which is your favourite?  Don't forget to tell the designers if you like their creations, either here (below) or on our FB page.  Some of them are available in our Market Place.

Thanks to all those who entered.  Next month, we have a competition - look out for the launch on April 6th.
