The Great British Sewing Bee Live

25 September 2017 21:18

So, the GBSB Live has happened - but don't worry if you missed it; there's going to be another one next year!  (June 8th -  10th.)

It was fun to be part of this new event, from the set-up

to the breakdown.

In between, I had lots of interesting conversations with people from all over the country and beyond, with customers (lovely to meet you, sorry to those I missed!),  people who didn't realise that you can print your own designs onto fabric and bloggers.

As well as all the stands, selling all sorts of sewing and sewing-related goodies, there were workshops, fashion shows, demos, displays (Liberty fashion from last century and some of the Sewing Bee garments) and, of course, the Super theatre, where Patrick Grant and Esme Young presided over GBSB-style alteration challenges.  Sadly, I didn't manage to get to one of those, but I did get a sneak peek in the theatre, whilst the judges were in there.

Lots of former contestants were involved, so we all played at 'Spot the Bee', as well as 'Spot the hand-made clothing' and trying to guess which pattern had been used.  I wore outfits each day which I'd made with PmP fabric.  At one point, three of us were comparing our Tilly and the Buttons creations!

It wouldn't be the GBSB without Patrick.  I didn't get a decent photo of the real thing, so here's a photo of a photo of him from his stand showing his Community Clothing collection.

Two other stands of interest were the Guerilla Baggers (more about that next week!) and this gorgeous dress, made from black taffeta and covered in hand-felted poppies.  It will be on display in London in the run up to Remembrance Day, then the poppies will be sold.  You can read more about it on the Project Poppy Facebook page

Here's to next year - see you there?
